ESTC has developed a new section of its Knowledge Centre dedicated to the maintenance of synthetic turf sports surfaces.
These pages have been developed with the support of ESTC members and industry experts and are primarily aimed at field owners and other end users.
We would like to emphasise that the information provided is not intended to serve as a maintenance guideline or to replace the specific maintenance instructions provided by the turf manufacturer.
The purpose of the pages is to explain the general principles of good synthetic turf maintenance and, importantly, to make field owners aware of the questions they should be asking when purchasing and operating a synthetic turf field.
Every synthetic turf system is different, and the appropriate maintenance programme will depend on the specific system, its components, intensity of use, local conditions and other factors. The turf producer remains the primary point of reference for system-specific maintenance requirements and recommendations.
A key part of the guidance is highlighting the importance of undertaking the maintenance to ensure any fibre debris (secondary microplastics) does not end up in the environment and become pollution.
Through these pages, ESTC therefore aims to encourage a better dialogue between field owners and turf producers, helping end users understand why maintenance matters and ensuring that appropriate maintenance requirements are discussed from the outset.
The new Maintenance section can be viewed here.
